Schachheld

Privacy policy

Last updated · 2 October 2026

Schachheld is an age-aware offline chess trainer. Profiles and learning progress are stored locally on the device. There are no Schachheld accounts, public chats or direct messages.

Age selection

The age group is selected without a preselected answer and is stored only in the local profile. It adjusts the language, learning path and advertising protection. Schachheld does not request a date of birth or identity document. Unknown age groups and profiles under 16 remain ad-free by default.

Data stored locally

This includes the profile name, avatar, age group, progress, stars or points, unlocks, mistake topics, training suggestions, settings and the status of ad-free access and support purchases. This data is not sent to a Schachheld server. It leaves the device only through an explicit action: as a backup file in a location the user chooses in the device file dialog, or as a shared weekly report (see below). Automatic Android cloud backup is turned off for Schachheld.

Advertising

Profiles aged 6 to 15 do not request ads. Profiles aged 16 or older use the Google User Messaging Platform before any possible ad request. Ads are loaded only when the privacy flow permits it. Google Mobile Ads may process device identifiers, IP address, diagnostics, interactions and advertising information. Profiles aged 16 or older can voluntarily watch a rewarded video to try a design for 24 hours. The permanent ad-free access included in support tiers from EUR 2.99 disables all ad requests.

Purchases and voluntary support

Digital one-time products are processed by Google Play. Schachheld does not receive complete payment details. Support products are not charitable donations and do not create a donation receipt. Learning content and playing strength remain the same for everyone. Support tiers from EUR 2.99 include permanent ad-free access.

Offline use

Lessons, puzzles, local engine analysis and 2D, 3D and 4D boards work without a Schachheld server. Learning and play remain available without internet; in that case, ads and Google Play purchases cannot be loaded.

Problem reports

The “Report a problem” feature opens an email draft in the device email app, addressed to the support address below. It contains the app version, build number, Android version, optionally the current board position and the text you wrote. Schachheld sends nothing automatically: only what the user sends themselves is transmitted. The email is used only to handle the reported problem. For profiles under 16, the feature is protected by the parent check.

Sharing the weekly report

The weekly report can be passed on as text. It contains the profile name, the date and the learning statistics for the week: how many lessons, puzzles, mini-games, daily puzzles and analyses were completed, plus the focus topic, the suggested next step and, if available, the latest mistake example with the moves involved. Schachheld hands the text to the Android share menu. There the user chooses which app receives it and whether it is sent; only what the user sends themselves is transmitted. Without a share menu, the text is only copied to the clipboard. For profiles under 16, sharing is protected by the parent check.

Ratings and read-aloud

“Rate the app” and the rating request open the Schachheld page in the Google Play Store. Schachheld does not learn whether or how the app was rated. The rating request appears only for profiles aged 16 or older. The read-aloud feature uses the device text-to-speech engine. Depending on the installed text-to-speech app, its provider may process the text read aloud; Schachheld itself transmits no data.

Deletion and retention

Local profile data can be removed by deleting the profile, clearing the app data or uninstalling the app. A backup file you created yourself remains until you delete it. Data processed by Google for ads or purchases is governed by Google retention and deletion policies.

Reminders

The daily reminder is off by default. It can only be switched on in the parent area, where the time is chosen as well. Android asks for notification permission only when it is switched on. Time and text are created on the device; nothing is sent and nothing about it is stored outside the device. Android decides the exact moment, so the reminder may arrive later. It can be switched off again at any time in the parent area or in the Android settings.

Request deletion of support data

To request deletion of your Schachheld support emails, write to schachheld-support@proton.me, preferably from the address used for your original request, and identify the relevant conversation. Do not send an identity document or payment details.

We delete the associated email address and correspondence, including submitted diagnostics, text, board positions and attachments. Resolved support requests are deleted no later than 90 days after closure. Where statutory retention obligations apply, only the necessary data is retained for the legally required period and is not used for other purposes.

Local profiles and saved games remain on your device and can be deleted there. Deleting support emails does not delete Google Play purchases. Data held by Google is subject to its privacy and deletion policies.

Support messages are sent through your chosen email app. Transport encryption also depends on its provider; encryption across every email delivery route is not guaranteed. Automatic Google Mobile Ads connections use TLS.
